CCI Fellowships

The Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) Fellowship program fosters art projects and research that advance cultural development and scholarship in the Caribbean and its diaspora. Through research and production-based art fellowships, the program cultivates new ideas that challenge traditional conceptions of Caribbean art, generates innovative study of the region, and reflects upon the contemporary state of Caribbean art and thought. The CCI Fellowship program is intended to support artists, cultural practitioners, and scholars from the Caribbean and its diaspora whose projects would benefit from access to Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and its institutional resources.

In 2025, the CCI invites interested researchers, artists, and photographers to apply for the CCI Artist Fellowship, CCI Research Fellowship, and CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship. All three programs are self-directed and will take place between September and December 2025. The exact dates of each one will depend upon the specific requirements of the project and be mutually decided upon by the awardee, the CCI team, and the partner organizations.

Fellowship Guidelines

2025 CCI Artist Fellowship

The CCI Artist Fellowship is intended for emerging to mid-career Caribbean artists and cultural practitioners based in the Caribbean or its diaspora and working across a range of disciplines and media. This opportunity is designed to support the development of artistic practice via studio work, mentorship, institutional collaborations, and/or engagement in public programs. The CCI will provide institutional support as well as access to PAMM’s curatorial resources and networks. The Artist Fellow will be hosted in Miami for up to two months and provided with accommodations, a stipend, and a studio space in collaboration with the Bakehouse Art Complex. Travel expenses to and from Miami will be covered. A production budget of up to $4,000 will be allocated depending upon the needs of the project.

2025 CCI Research Fellowship

The CCI Research Fellowship is intended for established and promising Caribbean researchers, scholars, or curators who are based in the Caribbean or its diaspora and whose research advances the study of contemporary art of the region. The CCI encourages proposals that expand the scholarship on artworks in the PAMM Caribbean Collection but also welcomes research projects that shed light on other aspects of Caribbean art and cultural production from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The CCI Research Fellowship will follow a hybrid format combining in-person and remote participation and must be completed within four months. As part of the program, the CCI will cover travel expenses and accommodations in Miami for a two-week residency period devoted to collection viewing, networking, and active engagement with the local art community. The CCI will also provide a research stipend and cover research-related expenses up to $2,000. The Research Fellow is expected to produce an essay that will be published on the CCI website.

2025 CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship

The CCI + WOPHA Fellowship is open to emerging to mid-career women and  nonbinary photographers from the Caribbean or its diaspora. During the fellowship period, the selected fellow will focus on the production of a new body of work or on expanding an ongoing project. The fellow will be able to develop their photographic practice* through mentorship and engagement with the local art community. Together, CCI + WOPHA will provide institutional support as well as access to their curatorial resources and networks.

The 2025 CCI + WOPHA Fellowship will run from September through November and follow a hybrid format combining in-person and remote participation. The Fellowship will include a residency period in Miami at El Espacio 23 during the month of September. The CCI + WOPHA Fellow will receive a stipend and production funds of up to $4,000, depending upon the needs of the project. If the selected fellow is not currently based in Miami, CCI + WOPHA will provide round-trip airfare to Miami.

* In this context, photographic practice includes, but is not limited to, creating images with or without cameras; automated and computational processes; augmented photography; and collecting, archiving, and/or circulating images.
